Hong Kong Translation Society 50th Anniversary Lecture Series (3)

香港翻譯學會五十周年呈獻:翻譯講座系列 2021-22 (3)

Date:

11/12/2021

Prof. Riccardo Moratto gave an interesting and inspiring introduction to his forthcoming book on the State Translation Program (STP) in the Chinese Yuan and Qing dynasties, which were governed by non-Han ethnic minorities. Adopting a governance-based approach to the study of activities and writings related to state translation, his research features a four-step model on the analysis of  how translation and governance are intertwined. Brief examples were examined in the talk, including the authorities or agencies involved, the resultant language policy and translation policies, the respective translation institutions and individuals, the regimes of textual and translation practices, and the translation training and selection system.
